Though physically entering the world in 1966, his story all began in 1978…Strathcona, MN, on a Polaris Gemini 250…when a racer was truly born, and Troy Pierce Racing really got started.
Troy Pierce began his love of snowmobiles by making parts and creating complete sleds at the early ages of 7-12. From assembling machines and fine-tuning parts as a youngster in the backyard shed, to making his dreams become a reality by racing what he himself manufactured from the ground up, Troy has become a trusted name in “knowing the soul of a sled” by not only producing them but allowing others to fulfill their dreams by racing through the checkered flags of success with his winning creations.
From 1978-1983 Rosco Surplus was Troy’s official awakening by sorting and selling performance snowmobile parts, which would funnel through there directly from the engineering department of Polaris in order to sell to the public.
During 1983-1984 Pro 5 was where Troy had the opportunity to learn from some of the “greats” (i.e. Burt Bassett, Larry Rugland) in dealing with after market snowmobile speed supplies. Machining and welding abilities were mastered whle working with such a phenomenal crew.
After High School Graduation, Troy not only worked at Pro 5 but also with Polaris as a test developer in Engineering. In fact, he helped to develop the first 4 wheel drive ATV with Bob Eastman as his boss. After doing so, Troy signed a smaller contract with Polaris to race from 1986-1988. Both Pro 5 and Polaris sponsored his racing and spurred him on to excel.
1988 led to a new adventures working for Wahl Bros. Racing (in which he was influenced by the friendship and abilities developed by learning along side Dave and Durmont Wahl). While doing so, the opportunity arose to sign a larger contract with Polaris to fulfill his dreams and race.
Troy would go on to work for Polaris full time and simultaneously start his own business in Greenbush, MN. (“Pierce Racing” was born 1990 and is still going strong today, now 6 miles west of Roseau, MN.). 1989 was one of the most memorable races and the first “big win” for Troy in Muskeegan, MI, among the many which followed, (See racing accomplishments below). His first 500 mile race win was at Canterbury Downs in 1996.
Troy eventually bowed out of racing professionally in 2003 which led him to tremendous opportunities with the Yamaha Motor Corporation (Minocqua, WI) where he not only was the race program director but their technical coordinator as well.
2005 once again led Troy back to his old stomping grounds in Roseau, MN where he has and is currently working for Polaris in Engineering with New Product Development, as well as maintaining Pierce Racing’s trustworthy reputation for manufacturing vintage parts and building sleds initially for himself and now strictly for others to race and experience victory.
